With several well-received singles under his belt, and notable live performances supporting The Boomtown Rats, Declan O’Rourke, Evan Dando and Paddy Casey, as well as confident gigs at venues like Vicar Street, The Ambassador Theatre, Cork Opera House, and the iconic Dublin Castle in London, Iann Brennan & The Echoes are, needless to say, turning heads with astounding appeal and infectious enthusiasm. Already fans of the Irish band’s work, Iann Brennan has impressed the team at The Other Side Reviews with previous material. Yet, is he able to do so again? Join us as we jump into their most recent release, ‘Don’t Let Love Get In The Way’.
Following the acclaimed singles ‘M2M’ and ‘Ghosts’, Iann Brennan & The Echoes bring a strong blast of indie-rock to our ears with ‘Don’t Let Love Get In The Way’. Produced with regular collaborator Ray Traynor, the track is a kaleidoscopic swirl of sounds. A bold, bright red drum pulsates beneath the brash blues of soaring guitars, while a shimmering yellow bass clips along, and the silvery keys dance in the sonic potion. Add Brennan’s golden vocals, and Traynor proves himself a musical alchemist operating with sophistication and maturity.
For me, Brennan’s music finds the line between gritty ruggedness and mellifluous flow with absolute ease. In ‘Don’t Let Love Get In The Way’, he continues in this vein, making you seriously consider indulging in that melodic potion – the consequences be damned. Sweet and fruity, but with a tangy twist, the group send tingles down your spine with a warm afterglow. If this single is anything to go by, their upcoming album Scars is sure to be a treat.
