Jon Gold – Lullaby For A Dream (2025)

Beginning as the influence and inspiration of a brother, musician Jay Gold instilled his love of blues and jazz in his brother, Jon Gold, who went on to learn the piano and embrace the realm of jazz music in a pioneering, trailblazing way. Having performed with the likes of Dizzy Gillespie and saxophonist Joe Henderson, along with performances at the invitation of the US Embassy in Brazil, and working with multi-instrumentalist Carlos Malta, Jon Gold has a repertoire some artists would love to have. Yet, it was his passion for Latin music that shaped his distinctive sound. Today, however, he steps aside from the jazz-influenced sounds of Brazil and embraces something new in ‘Lullaby For A Dream’.

Following his singles ‘Guanabara Eyes’ and ‘Wholly You’, ‘Lullaby For A Dream’ leans toward folk music with a tint of Gaelic-folk shimmering along the track. Inspired by artists like Jackie Oates and Julie Fowlis, the single is a simplistic weave of piano, percussion, what I imagine is bagpipes, and intimate vocals presented in a tender ballad. While Jon Gold penned, composed and produced the single, it is Ditty Wish’s ethereal voice that adds a sense of haunting to ‘Lullaby For A Dream’.

Heart-warming but simultaneously heartbreaking, ‘Lullaby For A Dream’ finds the thin line between rich, serene warmth and skin-chilling, tear-inducing tragedy. Inspired by the unmet dream of having a daughter, the track is “…Jon Gold’s lament that he was never able to have a daughter. The words are lovingly sung to this daughter he dreams of in the hopes she will close her eyes, sleep in peace and dream…” Yet, as much as it has a specific inspiration, Gold’s poetic lyricism points to a universal theme of love. He explains:

“It is my hope that this piece will be a moment of relaxation, beauty and reflection for the listener in a world where there is so much confusion and sadness. I wanted to underscore my belief that humans have an enormous capacity for love and empathy.”
