Josh Orange – Believers And Dreamers (What Have We Become) (2025)

With over 20 years of playing, performing, composing and creating music, it’s pretty clear to say that the Australia-based foursome Josh Orange has honed a unique sound and style for the masses. Perfectly aligned, they saunter across the realms of rock from folk-rock to indie, pop-rock to alternative – all while building something entirely Josh Orange but also taking an experimental stance.

Following their well-received singles ‘Devil At The Backdoor’ and ‘Birds For The Bayou’, Josh Orange saunter into 2025 with their new single, ‘Believers And Dreamers (What Have We Become)’. Drawing together the musical talents of Gordon Burke, Andrew Wass, Baline Munnings, and Alex Miller, ‘Believers And Dreamers (What Have We Become)’ drags us back to the 90s/early 2000s indie-rock sound; however, as much as the single reminds me of yesteryear, a strong contemporary flair inserts modern-day edginess.

While the track can fall in the realm of indie-rock, some hits of pop-rock bring a heavier tinge to ‘Believers And Dreamers (What Have We Become)’. Co-produced by Ben Worsey, Andrew Wass, and the renowned Tim Palmer, the blend of pounding drums, bold bass, and soaring guitars weaves a kaleidoscopic sonic tapestry shimmering with silvery light. As the bass-guitars-drums arrangement offers a strong rock element, Josh Orange insert their eclectic sensibilities with a twinkling harp and a quick hit of saxophone.

Unafraid to explore the grittiness of reality, ‘Believers And Dreamers (What Have We Become)’ is more than a rhythmic wave of sound; it is a weighty anthem with social commentary. The band explains:

“It can be frustrating to look around at what’s going on in the world and feel like there is nothing we can do. We hide behind what we really think and rarely say it on social media. People are scared of Big Brother… In a way, the song is about saying I have had enough of the greed, the corruption, and the state of world politics and the behaviour of the super-wealthy… Our very fibres of society are being threatened, and this song is an anthem for today.”

In addition to the single, Josh Orange released an official music video for ‘Believers And Dreams (What Have We Become)’. You can view the video below and/or on their YouTube channel.
