Katarsis – Infinite Ocean (2025)
A thought, an idea, and a dream, Katarsis was once a musical journey yet to breathe and explore the world. In 2018, the concept of Katarsis was formed, and today it finds itself formed in musical artistry. Throughout his life, the Finland-based musician was sauntering through diverse genres from progressive post-rock and folk; however, it is only now that Katarsis is reaching audiences with his melodies. Join us as we delve into his debut single, ‘Infinite Ocean’.
The first track from Katarsis’ upcoming album, Inward Path, ‘Infinite Ocean’ weaves through the realms of post-rock with a delicate thread of silvery light. In its wave of experimental rock, Katarsis focuses strongly on mood and the cinematic soundscape, avoiding traditional rock structure and pursues a rollercoaster effect within the melody. In other words, the oscillation between the subdued hush of harmonic guitars and drums to a crescendo hitting you between the eyes with thrashing drums, a bold bass, and scorching guitars – all leaving you somewhat breathless but also feeling like you’ve stepped from a tranquil sonic pool onto solid land.
Now, I might be going too far with interpretation and reading a little more into the song than the theme suggests, but ‘Infinite Ocean’ brims with melancholy and delicate vulnerability both sonically and lyrically. Katarsis’ gruff vocals exude sadness in the tone, and the lyrics sing of wading through an infinite ocean, denying our fate, ignoring a time to play, and just continuing like driftwood in the sea.
In addition to the single, Katarsis released an official music video for ‘Infinite Ocean’. You can view the video below and/or on his YouTube channel. Please note that this video uses lighting effects that can trigger seizures in people with photosensitive epilepsy. Viewer discretion is advised.
