Keeve – Conspiracy (2025)

Raised in a musical family, singer-songwriter Kevin Donohoe – also known as Keeve – would more than likely be drawn towards music. The Irish multi-instrumentalist shares that, “From a tender age, music has always been a huge driving force in my life.” With classical training as a vocalist, and knowledge of international musical styles ranging from UK soul and indie-rock to South Indian classical, Middle Eastern Maqam, Djembe drumming, and West African music – to name a few – the worldly artist brings music that transcends continents while simultaneously blending vintage and contemporary sounds. The latest addition to his discography is the single, ‘Conspiracy’.

Often compared to Paulo Nutini, Oasis and Coldplay, Keeve returns after a four-year streaming hiatus, according to Spotify, with ‘Conspiracy’. Produced by Pete Duffy (mixing) and Ivan Jackman (mastering), ‘Conspiracy’ leans strongly toward his comparisons and influences, yet retains an obscure distinction that makes you think of Oasis, Paolo Nutini and Hozier, but know there is something more original and authentic entwined in the musical mish-mash.

An indie-rock ballad with indie-rock sensibilities, ‘Conspiracy’ presents in a mature twirl of piano, drums, guitar and percussion. The clever layering of instrumentation sets you adrift on a sonic river with each ripple tapping at a piano, guitar or drums. Flowing together, everything meets in a harmonious, kaleidoscopic soundscape; however, the piano appears to “go off on a tangent”, bringing its unique flair with obscure tenacity.

Melodically, ‘Conspiracy’ is a wild ride of bright colours and fluttering music; however, it is Keeve’s vocals and the track’s lyricism that add weightiness to the song. Penned when Keeve was working as a call operator, the tune came to life over a few weeks while observing the behaviours of his colleagues. Rich, warm and confident, but with an edge of vulnerability, ‘Conspiracy’ is a tale of “…grievances and observations of how people were shamefully equated to numbers and profit margins… the lack of so much soul.”

So, what is my opinion of Keeve and his new single? Sincere and sensitive, there is a raw honesty in Keeve’s ‘Conspiracy’; it reaches into your soul and you feel instantly connected with it. I can see the sophistication of Keeve and his producers in ‘Conspiracy’. I only hope this trend will continue.
