Kelsie Kimberlin – Sucker (2025)

A prolific artist, singer-songwriter and filmmaker, Kelsie Kimberlin grabs the best of contemporary and vintage pop, sometimes with a mix of alternative rock, offering audiences a pop-inspired insight into the human experience. As a musician, Kimberlin works with top industry professionals, has received awards, has been featured in notable publications, and brings a powerful presence to the stage. As a filmmaker advocating for humanitarian needs in Ukraine, Kimberlin is busy with an independent film about Ukrainian resistance and resilience. Today, however, we take a look at her as a musician with the single ‘Sucker’

Following well-received singles ‘Ecstatic Arrest’ and ‘Sister Coronavirus’, ‘Sucker’ combines pulsating beats with shimmering synths, a dynamic keyboard and interspersed piano keeping the pace – all in a pop-filled bubble. Yet, as much as the single lies alongside artists like Ariana Grande and Billie Eilish, a grittiness exists in the rollercoaster ride between bounce and ruggedness.

Produced with Pedro Vengoechea, Yuri Shapeta, Vasyl Tkach, Brett Kimberlin, Steve Sachse (studio engineer), Stuart Hawks (mastering), Liam Nolan (mixing), and Larry Friedman (vocal production) – yep, it’s a hell of a set-up, but its sprinkling fairy-dust of sophistication and elegant music can use the talents of… um, talented variety. Interestingly, as much as maturity and sophistication exudes from ‘Sucker’, Kelsie’s skin-tingling vocal execution not only brings melodic obscurity but finds its way into the complexity of relationships. She explains:

“This song is not only autobiographical but about so many girls I have known who have been taken advantage of by boys who simply strung them along. When girls don’t have the confidence to reject such mistreatment, the relationship becomes toxic and breaks down. I want girls to recognise when they are being suckered so they can run for the nearest door. I learned the hard way that life is way too short to spend it catering to a jerk.”
