Kissing The Flint – Windscreen Dream (2025)
With a cheeky grin and mischievous twinkle in her eyes, Leah Chynoweth-Tidy brings that impish charm to your life with her enigmatic presence and enthusiastic melodies. From the metaphorical war of the sexes at the OK Corral with ‘Gunslinger Love’ to the reflective expression of a “keep calm and carry on” moment in ‘All We Can Do’, the award-winning singer-songwriter celebrates every inch of life with a feisty spark as Kissing The Flint. Join us as we jump headfirst into her most recent single, ‘Windscreen Dream’.
Following the critically acclaimed EP, Standing On The Fringe, and her well-received single, ‘All We Can Do’, Chynoweth-Tidy continues swaggering through 2025 with ‘Windscreen Dream’. Shifting from the alternative rock stand of ‘All We Can Do’, ‘Windscreen Dream’ showcases Kissing The Flint’s diversity with a tumble into country music. Produced with Huey Dowling, this song is a step out of Nashville with the toe-tapping combination of Derek Urquhart’s bold drums, Graham Rodger’s steel pedal and mandolin, Marc Clement’s shimmering grand piano, and Huey Dowling on the bass, slide and guitars.
Like travelling across a kaleidoscopic sonic river, the melody is a smooth, mellifluous brush of serene tranquillity and luxurious calm. Chynoweth-Tidy’s rich vocals travel along, skipping across the water with devilish delight. One of the most intriguing aspects of ‘Windscreen Dream’ – melodically, that is – is how the track is not twangy in the sense of retro country but still offers the distinctive twang vibe of Nashville.
Melodically, ‘Windscreen Dream’ is a refreshing wrap of sound, but the strength of the track lies in Kissing The Flint’s way of entwining powerful themes in charming music. Chynoweth-Tidy explains:
“This was always meant to be a country song in my mind from the very first demo draft that I recorded. Getting behind the wheel and driving formed as a metaphor for looking forward and not back at the remains of something or someone that hasn’t worked out, heading off into the sunset and a brand-new start with no regrets. And, of course, as a regional Queenslander, my lyrical road had to be a dusty one.”
