Kris Kolls – I Think (2025)
Brimming with creativity from her singing and songwriting to her performance as a dancer, show director, and aerialist, Kris Kolls captures the heart of expression with her multi-talented skills. This is my introduction to the Turkey-based musician, but her confident presence has made waves for several years – her musical journey debuting in 2024 with ‘& Again’ (then again, this is according to Spotify, so don’t quote me). Walking along the line between tension and soothing, calm and chaos, heartache to healing, Kolls uses bold vulnerability and electronic ambience, crafting emotional sounds with poetic words. The latest addition to her discography is the single, ‘I Think’.
Following her well-received 2025 singles ‘Joy’ and ‘HORIZON’, ‘I Think’ slicks various forms of pop onto her signature pop-filled sonic palette. While ‘Joy’ and ‘HORIZON’ leaned further toward an ambient dream-pop haze, ‘I Think’ inserts an RnB edge to the toe-tapping pop bounce. Self-recorded, composed and produced, ‘I Think’ wraps about you with its kaleidoscopic sonic veil so you view everything in the soundscape through a mystical mask.
It’s true, ‘I Think’ has a strong pop flavour, so I’m unsure whether it’s too much of a progression from Kolls’ previous work. Then again, isn’t this establishing herself as a distinctive notch in the music scene? The fluttering of RnB raps and mild hip-hop vocals injects an alternative kick from the underbelly, but this merely showcases her potential to diverge and not necessarily a full pivot in Kolls’ evolution.
Melodically, ‘I Think’ is an enjoyable tune that falls perfectly amidst the likes of Ed Sheeran and SZA, but it is the lyricism that gives it weight. Rene Descartes said, “I think, therefore I am” – Kris Kolls brings this to the fore with her new track. A song weaving honesty and groove into an exploration of self-worth and identity, Kolls explains:
“This track came from a place of emotional honesty. I wanted to write something that sounds like overthinking at 3 a.m. – chaotic, real, but somehow empowering.”
