Following the well-received tracks ‘Falling For You’ and ‘Home’, the new single ‘Written In The Stars’ shifts from a slower pace in ‘Home’ to the upbeat tone heard in ‘Falling For You’. Recorded and produced with Jamie Savage, with mastering by Paul Savage, ‘Written In The Stars’ binds vintage folk with a slip of indie-pop, bound in a charming wrapper of indie-folk, while some folk-rock peeps from the background.
Recorded with her full band, Calum Macleod’s drums set the pace while Aidan Smith’s piano lingers across the tune. Liv Dawn’s acoustic guitar hints at an acoustic, almost simplistic tone; yet, Chris Gilday’s guitar ups the ante with heavier, more rock-tinged soaring through the soundscape. Sophisticated and elegant, the arrangement showcases maturity and precision; however, the flowing gentleness of Dawn’s vocals brings a youthful innocence and intimacy to the track.
Taken from her upcoming album, Hopeful Wandering, ‘Written In The Stars’ is a reflective, honest and sincere song. Melodically, it touches your heart, but the lyricism adds another layer of depth to the track. A reflection on “…feeling lost, yet choosing to hold on to hope…it speaks to the belief that even in the darkest moments, there is always light ahead… hiding scars, finding light in the dark, and trusting that everything happens for a reason.”
In addition to the single, Liv Dawn released an official music video for ‘Written In The Stars’. You can view the video below and/or on her YouTube channel.
