Mercy Kelly – Breathe For Her (2025)
A couple of months ago, our team was introduced to the UK-based group Mercy Kelly with their indie track, ‘Speak Too Soon’. Already hooked from the outset, the lads turned our heads, and we couldn’t wait for more from them; today, we have more. Known for their energetic, enthusiastic performances, Jack Marland (vocals), Adam Bridge (lead guitar), Jacob Simpson (rhythm guitar), Joel Buckley (bass) and Leon Hepke (drums) have the skills to win a crowd; however, you don’t need to be in a live audience to fully appreciate Mercy Kelly’s bold, confident presence. Join us as we delve into their latest single, ‘Breathe For Her’.
Following the critically acclaimed ‘Speak Too Soon’, ‘Breathe For Her’ highlights the progression of Mercy Kelly and how they bring the best of the stage to the best of a streaming single. Produced with Alex Quinn at Kempton Street Studios (formerly Parr Street Studios), ‘Breathe For Her’ retains the indie-rock power of ‘Speak Too Soon’, but it seems to take it up a notch. Weaving a harmonic arrangement of pounding drums, dynamic bass, scorching guitars, and Marland’s rough vocals, the single hits you between the eyes with a heavy rock blast. Then again, as much as it is forceful, it is symphonic and soothing, sending you adrift on a glistening sonic river wrapped in a comfortable blanket.
Tough and rugged, but with a hint of vulnerability whispering through the vocals, ‘Breathe For Her’ elegantly binds fragility with resilience in a breathtaking melody. For me, the outstanding element is the transcendence from a live session to the polished recording; it’s as if you were standing front and centre at one of Mercy Kelly’s shows. Lyrically, it is weighty, but that live-ness is the drawing factor of ‘Breather For Her’. The band explain:
“’Breathe For Her’ isn’t just a song, it dives deep into love and loss, a statement and a defining moment in Mercy Kelly’s journey…”
In addition to the single, Mercy Kelly released an official music video for ‘Breathe For Her’. You can view the video below and/or on their YouTube channel. Please note that this video uses strobe effects that can trigger seizures in people with epilepsy. Viewer discretion is strongly recommended.
