Michael Suddes – Dragonfly (2025)
Described as an “…indie artist devoted to his craft”, singer-songwriter Michael Suddes doesn’t merely create a song and put it out there for others to hear. No, Michael Suddes immerses himself and audiences in the realm of music, creating honest, heartfelt, tender sonic whirls for solace, reflection, and comfort. With his critically acclaimed debut single, ‘I’m A Bird’ in 2022, the US-based artist emerged as a fresh spark in the contemporary folk music scene. Join us today as we take a deep breath and dive into his new single, ‘Dragonfly’.
Following the well-received 2025 singles, ‘A Lost Art’ and ‘New Path’, Suddes continues his walk into the folk scene with ‘Dragonfly’. Joined by regular collaborator, producer Sam Weber, the new track brings another shade to Suddes’ folk sound. Instead of the simplistic traditional folk melody, ‘Dragonfly’ inserts a heavier, somewhat darker, almost indie-folk-leaning trim to this musician’s ever-evolving sonic tapestry. A combination of dynamic drums, guitar, percussion and piano whispers simplicity, but a kaleidoscopic bubble binds each element into something hushed but bold, bright but misty, and soothing yet with an edge of fragility.
One aspect I enjoy in ‘Dragonfly’ is how the track retains a sophisticated steadiness and elegance, but simultaneously has underlying jaggedness despite its mellifluous nature – an aspect that perfectly expresses the weighty theme. Now, this may be me reading too much into things, but given Suddes’ courage to step into the grittier areas of relationships, ‘Dragonfly’ is a journey through the bad, the good, and ultimately seeing the light in heartfelt, hopeful, “stood the test of time” love.
Dancing across our skin like dragonflies nipping at the water’s edge, Suddes’ new single is a breath of fresh air at the end of a long day. Sincere, sentimental and smile-inducing, ‘Dragonfly’ is another spectacular song in Michael Suddes’ discography. I am eager to hear more from this talented artist, and I suggest you keep an eye on him as well.
