Moira Chicilo – Carry Them With Me (2025)
Inspired by the likes of Gillian Welch and Lucinda Williams, singer-songwriter Moira Chicilo celebrates the poetry and sometimes tragedy of life as we know it. She weaves tales of despair, empowerment, optimism, and the dark before the light in her melodies, offering solace, connection, and most of all exuberant joy. The latest addition to her discography is the single, ‘Carry Them With Me’.
Following her well-received single, ‘Poets & The Misfits’ – which just happens to be on our The Other Side Recommends playlist – Chicilo releases ‘Carry Them With Me’ on World Peach Records. Produced by Jayne Trimble and engineer Colin Hubick, the single brims with maturity and sophistication in its arrangement, but the track also touches your heart and soul with youthful innocence. Simplistic and stark, Chicilo’s acoustic guitar drives the melody with shimmers of percussion fluttering about. Add the rich vocals, and you have a piercing folk melody that soothes but haunts.
Her single ‘Poets & The Misfits’ was “…a love letter to all the artists who continue to bravely speak the truth in the hope to encourage humanity, justice and social change…”; ‘Carry Them With Me’ is as profound and evocative, but in a different way. The celebration of change in life is evident, but this is more poignant touching on families, memories and connectedness of “knowing where you came from”. Inspired by an afternoon conversation with her cousin Jesse, “…knowing that this would be the last time they would be together. By sharing photos, mementoes and stories, Jesse was determined to ensure memories of past generations would be passed on, not lost or forgotten…”
Serene and sincere, Chicilo lulls you into heartfelt comfort with ‘Carry Them With Me’, but a bittersweet bite inspires that sense of urgency lilting in soft lyricism and sounds. I was hooked with ‘Poets & The Misfits’, and ‘Carry Them With Me’ only increases my love for Chicilo’s music.
