Mouth Water – Smoke (2025)

Italian producer Mouth Water has struck sonic gold with ‘Smoke’, his latest single via Through The Void Records. A shimmering slice of synth-pop drenched in emotion and atmosphere, ‘Smoke’ is an experience – an intoxicating haze of nostalgia, longing, and dreamy introspection that gently washes over the listener like the golden light of a setting sun.

From its opening moments, ‘Smoke’ draws you into a rich, cinematic world. Swirling synths ebb and flow with effortless grace over a tight mid-tempo beat, offering just the right balance of momentum and calm. There’s a velvety warmth to the production that channels the retro allure of the ’80s, yet Mouth Water imbues it with a modern sheen that feels wholly contemporary. It’s as if M83’s widescreen emotional grandeur collided with the sleek psychedelia of Tame Impala’s electronic excursions, and the result is utterly spellbinding.

Vocally, Mouth Water takes a restrained yet mesmerising approach. His voice floats gently above the mix, airy and emotive, laced with a soft melancholy that adds depth without overwhelming. With subtle harmonies and delicate effects, his delivery is intimate yet distant, evoking the feeling of remembering something beautiful but just out of reach. It’s the perfect complement to the track’s evocative instrumentation.

What sets ‘Smoke’ apart is its ability to stir emotion without shouting. It doesn’t chase the bombast of a summer anthem but instead nestles into your psyche, becoming the soundtrack to quieter, more reflective moments. It’s tailor-made for twilight drives, late-night walks, or simply sitting still as the world turns slowly around you. The melancholic undertones never feel heavy; rather, they offer a gentle nudge toward introspection.

Ultimately, ‘Smoke’ isn’t just something you hear, it’s something you feel. It lingers in the air long after the final note, like vapour trails across a fading sky. With this release, Mouth Water proves he’s not only a producer of immense talent but an architect of mood and memory.
