Olivia Brown – found (2025)

Combining her love of music production and her training as a computer scientist, musician Oliva Brown brings modern-day technology to relatable music. She describes her aesthetic as “cyber and futuristic”, while retaining audience accessibility and intimate musicality within the melodies. Brown shares, “I want my music to be experimental but still consumable. Storytelling is at the centre – lyrics and vocals give my tracks structure and heart…” Join us as we jump headfirst into her most recent release, ‘found’.

Following singles ‘sparrow’ and ‘helpless’, the US-based Brown joins forces with Reverie Winters and The Sleep Dealers on ‘found’. A co-production with The Sleep Dealers, the new single retains the ethereal pop-inspired tone of previous material; however, it ups the ante with an eclectic texturing of glitches, off-kilter field recordings and ambient layers to set ‘found’ apart – not only within Brown’s discography, but within the sometimes-stagnating realm of contemporary pop.

In its off-kilter expression, one might feel a little uncertain as to where Brown is actually going with this, but this is only if you’re choosing a genre categorisation where none exists. The plucks of cyber-futuristic sounds enhance distortion in the track, almost leaning toward an expression of dystopian society. Insert a sense of gothic haunting, and you have a soundtrack to Brave New World or 1984. Yet, within the experimental nature, an orchestral weave binds everything together with silvery threads.

Just as the music is eclectic, so are Brown’s vocals. She seems to walk through the sounds, not matching anything, but also flowing along with the tune. Weightiness is increased when discussing the concept of ‘found’. Brown explains:

“Thematically, it’s about allowing someone I loved to harm me because she was so special. I convinced myself the torment she put me through was love, and that the pain was worth it just to be close to her. Looking back, I know that isn’t true – this song captures that mix of regret, nostalgia, and longing. It’s me trying to convince myself I could have stayed, even though it was never meant to be.”
