Ooberfuse ft. Tugista – Better Than Gold (2025)
Facing reality in all its grit, uncertainty, immorality, and the “what the hell is going on” attitude, Ooberfuse faces the instability head-on with their experimental, obscure melodies. Self-described as “the voice of a generation”, Cherrie Anderson and Hal St. John entice our ears with their eclectic sounds but spark a passionate flare to pay attention, make a change, and have your say in our hearts. Today, we take a look and listen to their powerful single, ‘Better Than Gold’.
After enjoying their alternative-pop tune, ‘Zeeba Da Boo’, Ooberfuse join forces with rap group Tugista in ‘Better Than Gold’. Self-produced, the single is louder, heavier, and a lot more in your face than what we experienced with ‘Zeeba Da Boo’; however, it does not diverge from the off-kilter creativity that is quickly becoming Ooberfuse’s distinctive sound.
Simplistic in one way, Ooberfuse’s guitar pulsates in the background like a sparse sound shining; moreover, the rap presents a somewhat barebones sentiment with each artist showing individuality and prominence throughout ‘Better Than Gold’. With that being said, the track is also kaleidoscopic with each element entwined in a shining tapestry – all parts harmonic, working in symphonic unity to deliver a message of empowerment while detailing the complexities of corruption, social injustice and discrimination.
Melodic but brash, confident but with a lilt of vulnerability, abrupt but warm, proud but understanding – ‘Better Than Gold’ blends sharp rap with smooth pop in a package to ignite fire and kick you out of disillusion and indifference. Ooberfuse’s Cherrie Anderson explains:
“Forget the love songs and the flexing. Real music claws at the throat of power. We’re dragging corruption out of the boardrooms and into the beat. Working with Tugista, hearing their truth – this is not some abstract political debate. This is the sound of evil proliferating in daily life. Demanding accountability isn’t a choice; it’s a moral obligation. This track is that obligation, weaponised.”
In addition to the single, Ooberfuse released an official music video for ‘Better Than Gold’. You can view the video below and/or on their YouTube channel.
