Pretty Little Saturday – Afterglow (2025)

For a decade, give or take, photographer Kristi Knupp captured the raw energy of live performances as a photographer in Los Angeles; now it’s her turn to step before the camera and spark with her own energy. While her photographic skills brought life to photographs, her musical talent allows Knupp to connect with audiences individually, sharing her narrative, her emotions, and a hand of solace straight from the heart. Performing as Pretty Little Saturday, the US-based musician came across our virtual desk last year with ‘Tangerine’. Join us as we take a listen to her most recent release, ‘Afterglow’.

Following the well-received single ‘Tangerine’, ‘Afterglow’ is Pretty Little Saturday’s final release in 2025. Joined once again by producer Patrick Doyle, the track is a saunter across the realms of pop. With a gentle kaleidoscopic glow, flecked by glittering fairy lights, the track binds modern pop with a dash of indie-pop in its soothing melody. Bold beats and silvery synths carry you along the track; however, while the instrumentation is mellifluous with its rise and fall, it is Knupp’s silvery vocals that make ‘Afterglow’ a truly glowing piece.

‘Afterglow’ may be the shimmering come-down after a rambunctious revelry – at least melodically – yet, lyrically and thematically, it brims with profound, poignant weightiness. A song of reflection and powerful insight, the song captures “…the cost of chasing temporary highs… the track explores artificial joy, emotional numbness, and self-awareness… and ‘waiting for the afterglow’ painting a bittersweet portrait of longing – for clarity, connection, and the version of life that might have existed if different choices were made…”

From those nights when you stare at the ceiling with personal, midnight thoughts, to a song in the background on a long drive, to those moments when you simply begin daydreaming and reflecting on life, ‘Afterglow’ is the perfect soundtrack to the emotional rush of life. The key release leading to her debut album, Long Overdue, ‘Afterglow’ is a tune to sit with you while you wait, with great anticipation, for Pretty Little Saturday’s new music.
