Queen Golem – Erase (2025)
Rock doesn’t get more ferocious than ‘Erase’, the brand new single from four-piece Queen Golem. They are a progressive metal band from Roeselare, Belguim. The band formed in late 2019, and have developed a distinctive sound blending heavy riffs, melodic choruses, and atmospheric elements. They have a heavy style similar to bands such as Metallica, Disturbed and Rage Against The Machine.
The track opens with cascading guitar riffs and has monstrous sounding guitars throughout. Jonas Vandewalle gets the chance to shine with his intricate guitar playing. The lyrics deal with confusion and the sense of feeling lost – “Ohhh, I need to have some space / Ohhh, but there’s something I can’t trace”. The track deals with self-control, and the negative thoughts that can never truly be erased. The only thing that can silence them is suffocation. The tempo of the track comes down briefly just past halfway. There is a lovely drum section during this provided by Niels Wouters. The vocals are from Yarno Lammens, who sounds like a grittier version of Chad Kroeger or Chris Cornell. There is nice bass which gives the song a lovely flow offered Karel Monsieur.
‘Erase’ is accompanied by a music video which features a simple band performance but with compelling use of strobe lighting. The visual element is a fine accompaniment to this powerful track. Queen Golem have released one full-length album in 2021 titled Nomadic. This contains the ambient complexities of ‘Beast Of Burden’ and the fantastic heavy instrumental piece ‘Nomadic Camel’. Two years ago they followed it up with the single ‘Guidance by Light’, which contains more than a hint of Pearl Jam. This shows that Queen Golem can adopt a mixture of rock styles and showcase them convincingly.
‘Erase’ is an adrenalin pumping track which packs huge sounding guitars and drums. The brief change in tempo halfway also gives the track more weight. There are enough elements here to please the hardest or softest of metal fan. Queen Golem execute their heavy rock convincingly and you can hear various influences from some of the biggest names from the genre.
