RISE – Dreams (2025)

We first came across the UK-based band RISE last year with the emotional single ‘Without You’ – a track from their EP Memories and Possibilities. An album dedicated to the memory of their dearly departed co-founder Steve Kinley, this re-emergence of RISE showcased a smorgasbord of indie-rock, alternative rock and pop. That was just over a year ago in 2024, but today we’re skipping ahead several months and a few releases to reach their latest single, ‘Dreams’. Join us as we delve into this new single.

Drawing together the talents of Sam Kinley (bass and vocals), Brian Petch (guitar), Paul Kinley (keyboards and backing vocals), and Alex Mahoney (drums), ‘Dreams’ is a swift kick or sharp drag back to the old-school rock sounds of the 80s and 90s. A concoction of crashing drums meets a dynamic bass with soaring guitars slicing across the rush of sound. Insert the shimmering flicks of keyboards, and there’s a kaleidoscopic roar of classic rock bursting from our speakers. Interestingly, as much as there is raw passion in the rock-infused melody, Rob Whiteley waves his magical production wand, offering a type of chaos within a clear sonic bubble of sophistication.

As with their previous singles, RISE’s music skips through the radio with the weight of an energetic live performance amidst the studio arrangement. ‘Dreams’ may flit you to the days of Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, but this timeless excellence illustrates how good music isn’t defined by decades or eras – it’s just creativity that can take you to a place where only music can be understood, regardless of the year.

Melodically, ‘Dreams’ is a stirring earworm perfect for, well, any time of day, whatever you may be doing. Yet, the lyricism is what gives it depth. RISE explains: “… It’s about the way in which people make plans for the future, and we all have dreams and aspirations, but how do we get there? There’s no guiding map to follow….”
