Roney X – Body Up (2025)

With his professional acting and dance career, Roney X (also known as Roney Lewis) has performed across the globe, sharing his creative talent with international audiences. Now, we’re not looking at his dancing or acting, we’re taking a gander at the musical side of his creative journey. As a singer-songwriter, rapper and performer, his music encourages inclusivity, bringing a fresh fusion of RnB, soul, pop and rap. Roney X shares that “…I blend genre-fluid sounds that reflect both my Caribbean roots and forward-thinking artistry.” Join us as we jump headfirst into Roney X’s most recent release, ‘Body Up’.

Following the well-received 2024 album FREE, Roney X steps into 2025 with this new track. Influenced by reggaeton, Afrobeats and RnB, ‘Body Up’ is a pulsating hit of energetic music bound in a rhythmic kaleidoscopic sonic haze. Interestingly, while the single has a strong hit of contemporary pop, there is a flutter of old-school RnB and rap simultaneously breathing life into 90s/early 2000s sounds while retaining a modern edge.

An immersive track, Roney X tosses you into this bubble of sound from the outset. Produced with G. Lis, the bounce of synths and keys winds about a bold beat, bringing a vibrant energy to the mellow tune. Made for the dancefloor, there is a languid sensuality lingering in ‘Body Up’, giving it a silky exterior. Yet, and this is merely my opinion, as much as the instrumentation drives the beat, Roney X’s dulcet vocals enhance its silkiness with elegant brushes of soothing calm.

This is my introduction to Roney X, but given only ‘Body Up’, it is clear to see (or rather hear) the powerhouse freshness he brings to a stagnant pop and rap scene.

In addition to the single, Roney X released an official music video for ‘Body Up’. You can view the video below and/or on his YouTube channel. Please note that this video uses lighting effects that can trigger seizures in people with photosensitive epilepsy. Viewer discretion is advised.
