Silva Lining Band – Could We Have Made It Far (2026)
Silva Lining Band is back with a thought-provoking, expertly crafted, ballroom-ready tune. The band describe their new song, ‘Could We Have Made It Far’, as a “soulful ballad about love, timing, and the questions that never leave us.”
Tiago Silva’s smooth voice sails delicately over samba piano chords as laid-back brushes and bass keep the bounce in the rhythm. Reeling from suspicion and failure, Tiago sings, “Once you had it all/ But you made it so we’d fall”, over this initial setup. The group’s horn players come in as he croons, and give the track an elegance with their festive energy shooting over the laid-back music. Going into the hook, the horns follow the vocals on the ups and downs of making sense of the ending of a bourgeoning relationship.
The slow and sparse rhythm section is perfect for the singer’s longing to be felt. The combination of horns and tender piano chords is enchanting. The arrangement is a gentle soundscape that gets your guard down and invites you to both sway and open up. Desire is understated but potent throughout the track. Silva Lining Band’s exploration of love that could have been becomes our journey as well.
On this single, every element is sparse, focused, which allows the band’s inner worlds to become so clear that through them, we can contemplate our own romances – past, or present, or dreamt of. Even veteran singer Sarah Jane Morris is here on background vocals. She adds brightness and soulful charm when her voice rises on the hook, bringing warmth and enhancing the passion. With lines like, “Had I lived for today/Then maybe you’d have stayed/‘Cause I’d rather chase your shadow/Than live alone in sorrow”, this song proposes the opportunity to ponder how to show up for love and oneself.
Silva Lining Band knows how to work within some of Latin jazz’s foundational grooves, which lend them their smooth sound. They continue to modernise this music and create tunes specific to their concerns. And once again, Silva Ling Band makes something that gets us to feel.
