Stainvarp – Steel In Spine (2026)
Known for its natural beauty, rich history, smorgasbords, Ikea, and the Vikings, everything in Sweden is, as the Swedes say, “lagom” – a term meaning “just right”. Amidst the breathtaking landscapes and coffee culture, this Nordic realm is also known for its raw, powerful, and a little in-your-face hard rock music. From Erik Grönwall to In Flames and Sabaton, Sweden brings some of the best artists to our ears. Join us as we jump into the discography of another Swedish gem: Stainvarp.
Following the 2026 single ‘Vision’, Magnus Nilsson and Mattias Larsson take on the complexities of, well, existing in today’s uncertain world with ‘Steel In Spine’. Produced by Nilsson, the new single is one of those that have you jumping about, screaming along, and pumping your fist in the air with furious earnestness. Crashing drums pound behind scorching guitars in a burst of 90s-esque hard rock attitude – think Three Days Grace dancing with Seether in a swoop of Nordic flair. Interestingly, while there is a sophisticated polish to the track, a gritty vulnerability and slight imperfections bring a raw sense of humanity to the melody.
While the single can raise your heart with its bold instrumentation and clever production, it is the lyricism and theme that add rage and determination to this anthem. Stainvarp explains:
“’Steel In Spine’ isn’t written from a political agenda, it’s written from a human reaction – frustration at propaganda, anger at power games played by leaders far from the battlefield, and deep respect for those defending their homes and identity… It’s not just a war song, it’s a song about identity, freedom, and refusing to kneel in the face of aggression… At its core, this release is about defiance. About not bowing when you’re told to. About holding on to who you are when someone tries to erase you. Rock music has always carried protest, truth and emotion. This song is my contribution to that tradition – raw, loud and unapologetically honest.”
