Tarn PK – F.O.M.O (2025)
Since our introduction to Tarn PK a few years back, the New Zealand artist has turned more heads, gained a greater following, released critically acclaimed EPs and tracks, is consistently played on Spotify and Apple playlists, and so much more. His evolutionary musical style, pivoting him from one genre to the next, showcases a multi-faceted singer-songwriter and producer. Amidst this genre diversity, Tarn PK weaves introspective lyricism and poetic storytelling to create places of solace, a catharsis, and a comforting hand resonating with audiences. The latest addition to his discography is the single ‘F.O.M.O’.
Following the well-received single ‘Cry Baby’ – his first release since 2023’s acclaimed ‘Papier-Mache’ – ‘F.O.M.O’ is Tarn PK’s second step into 2025. Self-recorded and produced, the new single retains the strong pop tone we hear in ‘Cry Baby’, but there is an element of something unique, obscure, and entirely Tarn PK. With a somewhat avant-garde flair, ‘F.O.M.O’ reaches into the heights of wistful dream-pop while keeping a grounded indie-pop element.
While lost in a foggy haze of sound, the pulsating beats act like a heartbeat throughout the track. A twinkling keyboard shimmers in the back, offering a mystical feel; however, it is Tarn PK’s vocals that have a simultaneously grounded stance and enigmatic flight. Confident and assured, but vulnerable and honest, ‘F.O.M.O’ delves deeper into raw emotion.
Melodically, Tarn PK captures the sense of despair intrinsic to that fear of missing out. Dampened and hopeless, the mundane lifestyle and corporate rat race can be disheartening, but ‘F.O.M.O’ brings a lyrical and sonic acknowledgement to audiences. Tarn PK explains:
“’F.O.M.O came out of my time working my 9-to-5 desk job and feeling like I wasn’t moving as quickly in my career as I was wanting to. Labelling that fear instead of shying away from it felt like an important thing to write about. The seed for ‘F.O.M.O’ was planted when the acronym began circling in my head…”
