The Muster Point Project – Greener Grass (2025)

Capturing raw emotion in their music, The Muster Point Project has tipped its hat to the complexities of relationships, the tragedy of loss, the intricacies of self-reflection, and the wisdom gained through different experiences with a charming brand of Americana, indie rock, folk and country. We only discovered the Canadian band last year with ‘What It’s Doing To You’, but the group has been turning heads far beyond their North American borders for several years. Join us as we delve into the latest single, ‘Greener Grass’.

Following the well-received singles ‘Brand New Day’ and ‘You Lose and You Gain’, The Muster Point Project weaves together elements of indie-rock and country with jangle-pop shivering beneath, all bound with silver Americana ribbons in their new single. Simplistic in one way, the easy-on-the-ear ‘Greener Grass’ offers a somewhat barebones sparseness; however, just as there is a stark sincerity to ‘Greener Grass’, a kaleidoscopic arrangement breathes life into its sentimental and reflective nature.

Produced by Darryll McFadyen, multi-instrumentalist Kevin Franco swims in the melody with a bold bass, guitar, percussion and eventually, the mandolin. A steady set of bold drums, performed by Marcelo Effori, is an anchored tone, piercing with beats yet remaining subdued in a warm embrace. For me, it is Franco’s vocals that piece everything together. Listening to ‘Greener Grass’ and his hushed vocals is like having a conversation with an old friend, chatting about life and the core of simply being.

“When I was writing it, I kept imagining what it might feel like to bail on life’s most difficult chapters, just to chase that greener grass on the other side. But as the song evolved, it became clear: the character at its centre isn’t escaping, he’s losing. He’s a coward masquerading as a dreamer… I think a lot of folks can relate to pieces of this story – most of us would rather sidestep life’s hardest moments than stare them down.” – Kevin Franco on ‘Greener Grass’
