The Project – death of me (2025)
With high-voltage enthusiasm, energy, and the thwack of “this is something outstanding”, The Project is a hard-hitting, soul-stirring, grin-inducing supergroup conceived by musician James Davis. Most well-known as lead guitarist for the band Shameless, Davis is joined by veteran musician Jeff Plant and Andrew Bonter, taking us back a couple of decades to the pop-rock world of the 2000s. Yet, as much as the vintage allure of yesteryear brims from The Project, there is a shift into new genre directions and a clip of contemporary vibes. The latest addition to The Project’s discography is the single, ‘death of me’.
A musical collective, each of The Project’s songs draws together the talents of different artists. Featuring Dennis Hill (California Sunsets), Jimmy D’and (Bullet Boys and Lynch Mob), Kevin Blades (Lit), Scott Shiflett (Face To Face and Eagle of Death Metal), and Erik Ferentinos (Stephen Pearcy), ‘death of me’ is a three-minute rush of powerful sound. Despite many of the artists hailing from rock-inspired bands, ‘death of me’ is a head-whipping slip of pop-rock/pop-punk.
More than a mere swirl of crashing drums, scorching guitars, a bold bass and powerful vocals, ‘death of me’ is an immersive tip into a sonic hurricane. Each instrument rears up as part of the kaleidoscopic winds rushing past your head at one million miles per hour. You try to stand up and face the storm; however, the music floors you, and you blow from pillar to post within the music. For me, this composition alone wriggles into your ear, knocks about your brain, and leaves you completely breathless.
Melodically, ‘death of me’ is a savage drop of sound; however, there is a soothing embrace lurking within the insanity. The rich vocals seem to hold your hand and act as an anchor in the chaos, so you aren’t quite alone, just enjoying the fun of the crazy ride.
In addition to the single, The Project released an official music video for ‘death of me’. You can view it below and/or on their YouTube channel.
