Three Smiles Wide – Emotion (2025)
Eagerly exploring the idiosyncrasies, quirkiness, eccentricities and intricacies of reality, indie outfit Three Smiles Wide celebrate life in all its tragedy and triumph. Making an entrance with their 2015 self-titled EP, Three Smiles Wide technically began making a mark about a decade ago; then things went a bit quiet until 2024 when they re-emerged with ‘Blah Blah Blah’. Today, the Welsh group returns to our eyes and ears with their new single, ‘Emotion’. So, make yourself a cuppa, bring along some chocolate biscuits, and let’s sit down to hear their intriguing new song.
Following the well-received singles ‘Blah Blah Blah’ and ‘Warm Ice Cream’, Three Smiles Wide saunter into 2025 with ‘Emotion’. Shifting from the punk rock-driven ‘Warm Ice Cream’, the new track showcases another facet of the band’s repertoire with an alternative rock meets indie-rock flair. Recorded at Sonic Hill by Tim Hamill, the concoction of crashing drums, a bold bass, and scorching guitar weaves a kaleidoscopic tapestry of rock music. Yet, while each element glides in a harmonious sound, each instrument appears to hold its own within the shimmering soundscape. Insert the rich vocals, and it’s a delightful dance of old-school rock with contemporary tinges flecked across the tune.
For me, ‘Emotion’ is a heavier, weightier addition to Three Smiles Wide’s discography; however, within this mellifluous flow of music, the theme enhances its weightiness even further. The band explains:
“’Emotion’ is about that messy, beautiful space between connection and confusion – when everything feels heightened but slightly out of sync… This song has been with us for a while, finding its shape as we played and lived with it.”
In addition to the single, Three Smiles Wide released an official lyric video for ‘Emotion’. You can view the video below and/or on their YouTube channel.
