Titan – Conjuring (2025)
While Titan might be a new trio in the New York music scene, the band members are no strangers to this world. Boasting a passionate zeal for music, Titan draws together the influences and experiences of The Electric Mess’ Esther Crow (vocals and guitar), Twin Guns’ Kristin FM (bass), and The Rats of New York’s Patty Rat (drums). After the dissolution of their previous projects, the ladies knew it was essential to keep their fiery spark of sonic ferocity going, so drawing together their punk, post-punk and rock tones, Titan emerged as a raw celebration of sound. Join us as we jump headfirst into their debut single, ‘Conjuring’.
Demonstrating a true commitment to high-quality compositions, ‘Conjuring’ was produced by Grammy Award-winning engineer Dean Jones. Stepping back to the rock-inspired tones of the 80s and 90s, ‘Conjuring’ has that eerie vibe of The Cure with a slip of The Smiths, and even a dip of indie-rock peeping from the background. Yet, I digress, comparing Titan to those artists merely offers a brief idea of what you hear; it by no means defines Titan as they prepare to set off with flairs of… well, everything from rock to indie-pop bound in a haunting gothic-noir web.
Listening to ‘Conjuring’ is not only listening to a song; it is immersing yourself entirely in a swirl of music. Pounding drums entwine with soaring vocals while a bold bass beats in the kaleidoscopic pool of sound. With wistful haziness, an ethereal veil seems to calm the waiting beast beneath the river’s surface as the obscure vocals teem with that underlying ferocity slowly creeping along your spine. Add Jane Scarpantoni’s haunting cello, and ‘Conjuring’s gothic eeriness sends delicate chills into your heart.
Melodically, ‘Conjuring’ captivates audiences in that web of sound; however, it is the lyricism that ups the ante, showcasing Titan’s profoundness and depth. A lyrical interpretation of mysterious journeys and new beginnings, ‘Conjuring’ “…illustrates the evolution of Titan – after the breakup of their previous bands, Kristin, Esther, and Patty are taking a leap back into the NYC music scene…”
