Track of the Day: King Flood – Break To Blue (2025)
For over two decades, Scottish singer-songwriter and producer has travelled along his musical path with passionate zeal and exuberant energy. From performing his songs in the local scenes, to playing in bands, to DJing, live event promotion, and helping countless others behind the scenes, King Flood burns his fiery musical passion for all to see… and then came a “crisis of confidence”. While his behind-the-scenes, DJing, promotion and production skills continued, that ember of self-confidence in performing solo work simmered beneath. In 2024, the embers could not be ignored, and King Flood picked up his guitar once again; join us as we delve into his debut single, ‘Break To Blue’.
Self-composed, penned and produced, ‘Break To Blue’ holds a strong leaning to Americana brimming with country twangs, a blues-infused beat, and slight tinges of rock breaking through the curtain of sound. A harmonic set of bold drums pulsate in the background, with guitars lingering in the back, and a strong pedal steel taking the fore; however, woven between the instrumentation is a smooth harmonica adding a slice of smooth suave to ‘Break To Blue’.
Tapping into the New Orleans blues, ‘Break To Blue’ has you tapping your toe and feeling that soul from the first moment. Add King Flood’s gritty vocals, and there’s a sophisticated elegance clinging to the raw emotion in ‘Break To Blue’. Delicately unpicking the fragility of human spirit, but simultaneously offering a sense of resilience and empowerment, ‘Break To Blue’ is the sad song you need as a pick-me-up on heart-breaking days. King Flood explains:
“It’s about going through something heavy and realising the only way out is forward – even if that path is murky. It’s the first song I’ve put out in years, and it means everything.”
In addition to the single, King Flood released an official music video for ‘Break To Blue’. You can view the video below and/or on his YouTube channel.
