Track of the Day: Cayne – Outcast (2026)

Formed almost 30 years ago by the founding members of Italian gothic metal band, Lacuna Coil, guitarists Claudio Leo and Raffaele Zagaria might be connected to Lacuna Coil, but developed their own artistic identity with Cayne. Keeping their gothic metal roots, yet leaning further toward an alternative metal sound, the band constantly evolves, matching contemporary sounds with vintage flair. From the original late 1990s line-up, many members have come and gone – sadly, Claudio Leo passed away in 2013; however, with each new musician stepping into the Cayne fold, the group grows in distinction, diversity and originality. Skip ahead to 2026, and the latest addition to their discography is the single ‘Outcast’.

Recorded and produced by guitarist Diego Minach, ‘Outcast’ follows the 2026 EP, Exuvia – an album with a particularly interesting cover of Frankie Goes To Hollywood’s ‘The Power Of Love’ that I highly recommend. If you take a quick listen to the acoustic EP, you might not be prepared for ‘Outcast’; then again, you just might as the single transcends speakers dragging you to a live session with its hard-hitting, forceful, hit you between the eyes and enjoy the show sound.

Featuring the drumming skills of Moonspell’s Hugo Ribeiro, ‘Outcast’ weaves crashing drums with Andrea Bacchio’s pulsating bass, Minach’s guitar adds a hard rock flavour with its soaring flair, and Giovanni Lanfranchi inserts a slip of something synth-y with his lingering keyboard and shimmering synths. Yet, while the hard rock flavour beams in the melody, featuring Cayne’s distinctive electric violin, it is Giordano Adornato’s rich vocals that find the sweet spot between gritty ruggedness and soulful soothing.

Melodically, ‘Outcast’ is intriguing, inspiring and exudes a sense of hope and optimism – the light within the dark. Its weightiness is only enhanced by the message. Cayne explains:

“‘Outcast’ explores themes of alienation, resilience, and inner strength, delivering a powerful message for those who feel different but choose to stand proud… A true anthem for everyone who has ever felt like an outsider, a reminder to embrace who you are and to always be proud of it.”

In addition to the single, Cayne released an official music video for ‘Outcast’. You can view the video below and/or on their YouTube channel.
