Track of the Day: Sonofold – Saturday Night
Sonofold (pronounced ‘son of old’) is the brainchild and solo project of South African singer/songwriter Nic Olsen. Known for being the frontman of the band Perez who enjoyed success with songs like ‘Wasted Out’ and ‘Picture Perfect’ – all top hits in South Africa. In 2008, Olsen was asked to join South African indie-rock band The Parlotones and, while his time with the band was brief, his contribution was significant. Despite his working with other bands, Olsen also worked on the solo project Sonofold. The latest addition to his repertoire is ‘Saturday Night’.
The second single released in 2020, ‘Saturday Night’ is a soothing fusion of indie-rock and dream-pop. Steady instrumentation complements Olsen’s rich and melodious voice. While the lyrics are quite carefree it is the melody that is the high point of ‘Saturday Night’ placing you in a trance with its calming tones. Sonofold has also released a music video for ‘Saturday Night’.
