Tridence – Decay (2025)

Already wriggling in our ears and planting themselves in our brains as one of the more exciting bands from Ireland, the indie-rock meets alternative rock Tridence quickly made an impression with ‘By Your Own Design’. Joining the talents of Baily McLoughlin (lead vocals and lead guitar), Ben McLoughlin (rhythm guitar), PJ Moore-Coates (bass guitar), and Rory Stewart Cummins (drums), they kept their momentum with ‘Poised’. Today, the lads return with their single ‘Decay’ – and we’re about to jump into it headfirst. Join us, won’t you?

One of the tracks from Tridence’s upcoming sophomore album, ‘Decay’ follows the well-received ‘Pretty Imperfections’ and ‘Poised’. A strong alternative rock track, the new single captures weighty drums, soaring guitars, and a bold beat all flowing in a rhythmic groove. Yet, as much as the arrangement is heavier than some of their other work, a sense of soothing calm and light-hearted gentleness seemingly whispers in melodic charm. It’s confident in its darkness, but Tridence guide you through the dark with shimmering hope.

An immersive single, Tridence holds your hand as you travel through a dark forest of jagged rocks, as Baily McLoughlin’s vocals lift you with their richness and warmth. For me, this is the perfect alignment of ‘Decay’s concept – exploring the complexities of society with an intimate narrative. As ‘Poised’ prompts one to stand tall and celebrate resilience in today’s uncertain world, ‘Decay’ looks at the root of its uncertainty and “society crumbling under the weight of its own contradictions”.

Considering the diversity yet similarity of Tridence’s previous singles, it appears the new album, Poised, is set as a journey through the realms of contemporary rock music. Moreover, it’s not only a saunter through varieties of rock, but it takes a stab at the less appealing sides of reality. Gritty and gruff, but soul-stirringly soothing, Tridence highlights their poignant depth and soul-stirring sounds. I am eager to hear more from this highly recommended group.
