Ulrich Jannert – Inner COMPASS (2025)

Beginning as minimalistic, lo-fi instrumentalism evolved into a wealth of soul meets pop meets R&B with some Americana influences and lyrics thrown in for good measure. The artist: Ulrich Jannert.  Hailing from Germany, but now residing in Scandinavia, producer, composer and singer-songwriter Jannert delves into the “easy listening” vibes of modern music, transcending time, genre and audiences with his genre-diverse sound. For me, this is my introduction to Ulrich Jannert – and it couldn’t come at a better time than the beginning of a dreary working week. Join us as we sit back, chill out and enjoy one of Jannert’s singles, ‘Inner COMPASS’.

Taken from his 2025 album, Shape your galaxy, ‘Inner COMPASS’ is a song of empowerment, optimism and self-discovery. It’s that tune that tells you to calm down, listen to the voice in your head, stop worrying about the noise around you, and just follow your gut. Jannert explains:

“My new song, ‘Inner COMPASS’ [is] crafted to bring positive, reflective and feel-good vibes. This track has a strong message to picture your dreams and find your own way with your inner compass. All starts with an internal movement and focus on getting out of your comfort zone to develop from a caterpillar to a butterfly. That’s the message…”

Self-produced and recorded, ‘Inner COMPASS’ retains the strong pop-inspired influence heard throughout Shape your galaxy. Interestingly, as much as Jannert’s vocals can be included in any pop playlist, there is a soulfulness in the confident execution. It’s as if he holds your hand and guides you across a sonic river with a grin on his face.

For me, Jannert’s voice tends to dominate the track, but without being too much of a dominating force. It’s the sheer strength of his rich tones that controls the song; however, as much as there is strength, a subdued intimacy exists. The confidence exudes from the easy-listening fusion of bold beats and guitar – not too much, but then again enough to keep your head in the good vibes zone.
