Ulrich Jannert – Rewrite The Road (2026)
You know you’ve been introduced to something amazing when a person merely mentions an artist’s name, and you can hear their music in your head. For me, the musician is Ulrich Jannert, and the song is ‘Two Men By The Harbor’. From the opening line to the swelling rush of sound, the gritty soft rock tune plays along, and I find myself humming. Following the well-received single, ‘Two Men By The Harbor’, the Sweden-based singer-songwriter released his EP, Rewrite The Road, and we’re taking a listen to its title track. Will it be as impressive and memorable?
Self-penned, composed, recorded and produced, Ulrich Jannert writes music to “…fuel inner energy while offering listeners a moment of calm – encouraging them to trust their own path, follow their inner compass, and enjoy the ride” – ‘Rewrite The Road’ fully captures this sentiment. Keeping in line with existential questions of “who am I”, “where am I”, and “who do I want to be”, ‘Rewrite The Road’ pushes the person to break free from their current existence, looking to the future and not the present.
For me, the lyrics “You’re the author of your smile” and “The road is waiting” epitomise the track’s message of living in the moment, making your decisions and walking your own path. Jannert explains: “The song speaks about letting go of the past, breaking free from toxic ties, and choosing your own path in life… it inspires listeners to reclaim their future and move forward with confidence…”
A blend of soul, blues and rock all caught in a colourful musical concoction, ‘Rewrite The Road’ simultaneously washes you in a stream of sincere music, while picking at your heart and dancing across your skin in its ruggedly profound way. Once again, reminiscent of Joe Cocker’s vocals bathed in the soulful music, Jannert’s vocals stand out with a nostalgic 90s rock thread. The thing is, while I mention the similarity, Jannert is entirely individual and creates songs that are completely Ulrich Jannert.
Sincere, sentimental and empowering, with its gritty texture, ‘Rewrite The Road’ might not replace ‘Two Men By The Harbor’ as a favourite for me, but it’s definitely up there.
