Veronica Raine – moonlight (2026)
Just as she entered her teenage years, Veronica Raine picked up a ukulele and began a love affair with music. With sharp lyricism, emotional honesty, and a distinctive style blending pop, folk and indie elements, the Canadian singer-songwriter stamps her unique brand of sound on the international music scene. From Calgary to Cairo, she turns heads with features on notable media, global radio stations, and confident performances with the likes of Amy Bishop, JJ Shiplett and Mallory Chipman. Come along as we discover Veronica Raine with her new single, ‘moonlight’.
Recorded and produced by Russell Broom, who happens to contribute his skills on the acoustic guitar and double bass, ‘moonlight’ teeters along and across the line between indie-folk and pop. Soft and gentle, the weave of Raine and Broom’s guitars lay out a mellifluous, shimmering sonic tapestry; the strings coming across as playful and sincere in a silvery flit of sound.
Melodically, Raine’s sophomore single is bright and confident like a beam of moonlight; then again, as much as there is an innocence and whimsy in the wistful serenade, the track is also vulnerable and melancholy with a lingering despair. When speaking about the song, its theme, and the almost diary entry intimacy of the lyricism, Raine explains:
“‘moonlight’ lives in the bittersweet – though mostly bitter – feeling of knowing something isn’t right for you, but loving it too much to walk away. The song explores the way love can blur reality, like a kind of emotional rose-coloured glasses… At its core, ‘moonlight’ is about the quiet grief that comes with losing a lover, made even more painful when they haven’t actually left. It reflects the strange space where love lingers out of habit, memory, and hope, even when the heart knows it shouldn’t.”
In addition to the single, Veronica Raine released a live performance video for ‘moonlight’. You can view the video below and/or on her YouTube channel.
