9 o’clock Nasty – Love In The Circle (2025)

Love is a many-splendored thing – or so the song goes. Bright, joyful, smiling infatuation with that butterflies in the tummy feeling, all so innocent and lovely; then there’s the other side of the coin, steeped in lust and not-so-innocent areas of dishonourable intentions with that butterflies fluttering feeling in other parts of the body. A beautiful chocolate éclair, so pretty and delicate with its chocolate topping; then you take that first bite and the pastry melds with sweet cream, and that chocolate adds even more decadence. It’s carnal, sensual, and the dark side of love… or we can leave the lights on, if you prefer.

So, where am I going with this? What’s the éclair metaphor all about? It’s all about 9 o’clock Nasty and their new single, ‘Love In The Circle’. The third single from their upcoming album Chaos – set for release later this year – ‘Love In The Circle’ is about infatuation, desire, poor judgements, and begging the question “how can you find love in the circle of filth.”

Following the singles ‘People Pleaser’ and ‘Peacekeeper’, 9 o’clock Nasty’s ‘Love In The Circle’ takes the punk aristocrats on a slide of funk-rock music. A suave, elegant meeting of bold drums, guitars, and a dynamic keyboard bringing funk back to town, the new single showcases another side to 9 o’clock Nasty’s multi-faceted personality; however, a trace of punk clings to the edges in the sharp vocals, having a brash conversation with a strange honey-coated elegance.

As with the majority of their material, the Leicester-based lads show duality in ‘Love In The Circle’. A song about sexuality and sensuality in its creepiest, leeriest form, the boys question if you can stay horny while being righteous – the thought of Roger Moore as James Bond comes to mind; but beneath the words, there’s the message of finding a sense of honour, acceptance and love in a world crushed by the grunge-ridden darkness of dishonour and scandal. Then again, this might be just me overthinking things, and perhaps it’s just a song about lotharios searching for that orgy without being too obvious.
