myah – dodging bullets (2025)

While singer-songwriter myah might not be a household name just yet, this musician is no newbie to the world of performing arts. The creative force behind music videos for artists like The Marias (‘All I Really Want Is You’), Steve Aoki (‘Ultimate’), Tinashe (‘X’), Oliver Tree (‘Cowboys Don’t Cry’), and 24k Goldn (‘Mood’), myah has proved her place as a name behind the camera; now, she’s stepping from the background to the fore. With a growing reputation for energetic, confident and engaging performances, the US-based artist has charmed audiences at notable venues like The Viper Room, Whiskey A Go Go, and Troubadour; but you don’t need to be in the crowd to succumb to her charms – all you have to do is stream her music.

In 2024, myah introduced her provocative and evocative merging of complex emotions and pop-rock slicked melodies to our ears with ‘notice you’. Skip ahead a year, and she keeps the momentum going following her well-received 2025 album, IS THIS WHAT I SEE?, with the new single, ‘dodging bullets’. Drawing on personal experiences with an intimate narrative, ‘dodging bullets’ demonstrates raw emotion and brutal honesty. Co-penned with Lina Cooper, the song is like dipping into a diary or speaking to an old friend during a ranting session about the complexities of… well, human connection and life. myah explains:

“’dodging bullets’ is a story-driven track. It tackles the question “why does dodging bullets even hurt me?” – a play on the colloquialism, you dodged a bullet.”

The lyrics are significant, eloquently expressing emotion, but the melody is as intriguing. Simplistic in a way, the pop-rock tune carries the lyrics like a river flowing beneath colourful sonic words. It is laid-back and easy on the ears, with producer Tripped N Sat waving a powerful wand across the arrangement, weaving heavy drums, soaring guitars, and a bold bass in rhythmic harmony. For me, however, the last blast of hard-hitting guitar riffs seems to crescendo the emotional lining, bursting with alt-rock flair.

In addition to the single, myah released an official music video for ‘dodging bullets’. You can view the video below and/or on her YouTube channel.
