Nate Currin – The Highway (2025)

A troubadour in the truest sense, Nate Currin is more than just a guy who writes songs and sings them; he is a testament to the artistry of musicians. With over 900 shows and more than 800,000 miles behind him, even living in a motorhome for several years while touring across the US, Currin built his career on pure passion, and probably has some interesting tales from the road. While this is our introduction to Currin, he has been turning heads, winning hearts, and earning awards for almost two decades – needless to say, we’re late to the party, but better late than never. Join us as we delve into his most recent release, ‘The Highway’.

Following his well-received single ‘The Crying Wolf’, Nate Currin takes things down a peg or two with the simpler, sparser, but still evocative new track. ‘The Crying Wolf’ is a fist-pumping Americana anthem that will have you bouncing along in its rock-infused bubble; ‘The Highway’ leans toward the country song that has you tearing up, and you don’t quite know why.

Recorded and produced in Nashville by Matthew Odmark, ‘The Highway’ blends pedal steel, shimmering keys, and steady drums in a silvery concoction of music. One aspect I find particularly intriguing, especially when you know the theme of ‘The Highway’ is one of yearning, is how the melody delicately oozes emotion in palpable sound. It’s as if each instrument contributes to an emotion, a thought, or a feeling. The eerie drums pulsate beneath like a heartbeat, while the pedal steel is the soul seeking solace but simultaneously feeling lost. Add the keys, and there’s a haunting lull whispering tragedy. Add the vulnerability and fragility in Currin’s vocals, and, well, that’s raw longing in an acoustic package.

“I wrote this song after an amazing experience with a remarkable woman…. I was hoping all these years, driving thousands of miles, that someone would ask me to stay and pull me off of the highway for good, and I hoped she would be the one… but I am still travelling the highway, waiting on that special someone.” – Nate Currin on ‘The Highway’
