Sammm – you’Re nOt soRrY (it will haunt you) (2025)

“Roses are red, my hair is blue, play with my heart, and I’ll write a song about you” – describing herself as a “professional over-romanticiser”, singer-songwriter Sammm is unafraid to swim through the complexities of love with all its joy, beauty, grit and sometimes tragedy. Marked by empowerment and authenticity, innovation, and a plain passion for what she does, the US-based musician retains originality and genuineness in an industry that breeds insincerity, dullness, and stagnation. Join us as we jump headfirst into her latest single, ‘you’Re nOt soRrY (it will haunt you)’.

Following her 2024 single ‘pinky promise’, ‘you’Re nOt soRrY (it will haunt you)’ is a strong pop production elegantly flowing in a rhythmic rush of music. Produced by Gabe Neal, the track brims with duality as its softness is wound with darker themes and intent. Sammm’s hushed vocals are rather quiet with no real raising of the voice above a gentle whisper; however, her tones add a haunting quality, giving you the shivers while entreating you to continue listening.

As with broken romances, ‘you’Re nOt soRrY (it will haunt you)’ is deceiving. With mellifluous calm, Sammm presents a languid and almost serene attitude in the song. The synths carry you along with bold beats and a twinkling piano in the background… then it gets heavy. Like a tumultuous turn or a rising wave in the sonic river, the beats become more prominent, the tempo speeds up, and you’re roaring along a treacherous pop edge, but the delicate fragility and softness exist throughout the track.

An anti-love song in a way, Sammm reveals the uglier side of romance, beyond all the butterflies and smiles to the broken endings and frayed edges. She explains:

“Things had just ended between me and someone who didn’t have the capacity to love me. I planned to work on two songs that week. One was actually a happy love song about him, and the other is this one here that is quite the opposite… It’s a painful experience to be held by hands that don’t know how to or just can’t hold you the way you need.”
