Rick Lockwood – Another Radio Tune (2025)

With a guitar in one hand and a passion for music in his heart, singer-songwriter Rick Lockwood has been bringing music to the world since he was 10 years old (or at least I think that’s the age of a 5th grader). So he might not have been performing for the masses when he was a kid, but skip ahead several years and Lockwood was a guitar instructor for 15 years, owned the lesson studio/retail music store The Guitar Shop, co-founded Earthbound Misfits, released several albums, built a reputation for engaging melodies with a confident stage presence, and turns heads whenever someone hits “play” for any of his songs. Join us as we jump headfirst into one of his most recent singles, ‘Another Radio Tune’.

Taken off the 2025 album, My Own Kind of Normal – an album advocating for the assistance of veterans and donating proceeds to Heroes In Transition – ‘Another Radio Tune’ is a self-produced track that embraces the beauty of Americana. Across the 11-track My Own Kind of Normal, Lockwood saunters through various shades of folk and country, but it is ‘Another Radio Tune’ that really leans into the sounds of Americana’s yesteryear.

Following the folk-rock track ‘Para Tu’ on the album, ‘Another Radio Tune’ dims the lights slightly on the rock element; however, the combination of a soaring guitar, steel pedal, drums, and even a fiddle near the end gives a heavier, weightier sound to the track. For me, it is the fiddle that truly ups the ante of ‘Another Radio Tune’. The crescendo in guitar certainly deserves a notable mention, and the pulsating drums beating in the back like a person’s heart carries one, but it is the soaring fiddle adding something extra with country flair.

Both a song I can expect people to tap their toes to when sitting down for a beer at their local pub, and a song to have fans singing along at a sold-out show, Rick Lockwood demands attention with his single. Just as ‘Another Radio Tune’ can keep you captivated from the outset, it does so with subtlety and rich gruff vocals from Lockwood. Sincere, sentimental, and a great song to boot, I highly (very highly) recommend this track and the rest of My Own Kind of Normal.
