June – MerryGoRound (2025)

Introduced to June a couple of months ago with her debut single, ‘Up’, we were delighted to come across an artist who weaves pop, folk and indie in an emotional tune. While the different genres exist, the concoction of each highlights June’s ability to create harmony yet retain the individuality of each tone. Turning heads internationally with her music, June is quickly developing a loyal fanbase from North America to Europe, South America and beyond. Join us as we take a step into her most recent single, ‘MerryGoRound’.

The sophomore single from June, this was the track to determine whether she peaked in the beginning or not – I am glad to say there’s no peaking just yet. Produced with Asher Condit, ‘MerryGoRound’ shifts from the toe-tapping pop bounciness of ‘Up’ to a weightier twist of indie-pop. Waving his magical production wand across the melody, the combination of bold beats, synths, guitar, and leading piano is sophisticated and polished; however, a darker, deeper, tragic vulnerability oozes from the single.

Showcasing her skill of binding classical structure with free-flowing improvisation, ‘MerryGoRound’ is like a tempest in a teacup. The teacup is driven by June’s piano and the polished arrangement; however, the tempest comes to light as the twirl of instruments exudes a heady rush of sonic fog. Melodically, ‘MerryGoRound’ has this way of washing over you, opening with the staid foundation… then the spinning lights begin to send you in a spiral of music – the perfect expression of its complex theme.

The anthem for modern-day life filled with peer pressure, unrealistic expectations, and a drop into the chasm of materialism, ‘MerryGoRound’ is “…a metaphor for the dizzying pace of society and how difficult it is not to get swept up into materialistic ideologies… the seduction of chasing achievements and how they can’t take a break from striving for more… Once you’re on the rollercoaster of life, you won’t ever get off of it.”

So, what is my overall opinion of ‘MerryGoRound’? Intimate, intense and honest. Despite June having released her debut single a couple of months ago, she is an artist on the rise with little sign of slowing down.
