Silky Vibe – Mess With Me (2025)

Instead of leaving us to the sounds of Marvin Gaye and Billy Ocean, we’re discovering a harkening to Usher and Frank Ocean with Silky Vibe. Blending the timeless appeal of vintage R&B with modern-day soundscapes, the US-based singer-songwriter brings a sound that is both familiar and refreshingly new. We came across the soulful sounds of Silky Vibe last month with his well-received single ‘Moody’. Today, we invite you to join us as we dive headfirst into his latest offering, ‘Mess With Me’.

Following the critically acclaimed singles ‘Moody’ and ‘Lady’, Silky Vibe retains a traditional R&B vibe in ‘Mess With Me’, but there seems to be a shift to slower, smoother, sexier tones to the track. Self-recorded and produced – all from his bedroom – ‘Mess With Me’ presents a sparser, almost barebones sound in its chilled-out soundscape. Each instrument plays a role in the warm, tender sonic tapestry – the drums keeping time in the background, while a guitar shivers in the air. For me, however, it is the reverbed vocals enhanced by a synth-y flavour that shines both melodically and as an expression of the theme.

Melodically, ‘Mess With Me’ is the shiver of excitement you feel when you think about a new romance; however, while smooth and languid, the Silky Vibe’s rich vocals carry a sense of haunting vulnerability in their sensuality. Silky Vibe explains:

“This song is a modern-day take on Marvin Gaye’s ‘Sexual Healing’. I envisioned it as a plea to a lover to stop playing around and come give me something real that I can feel. This song was inspired by, more so, a personal experience of wanting someone that I felt I couldn’t have physically, but loving and craving in silence for them to want me in the same way.”

Taken from his upcoming EP, Moody, ‘Mess With Me’ unpicks the complexities of desire and yearning. I was captured with Silky Vibe’s ‘Moody’, and I am even more intrigued by ‘Mess With Me’, who knows what to expect from the EP? I’m eager to find out.
