The Ocean Beneath – Electron Fields (ft. Keeper of Bees) (2025)
The Ocean Beneath and Keeper of Bees are names that are new to my ears, but the pair have been turning heads for many years with their eclectic musical styles. Performing under the moniker Keeper of Bees, singer-songwriter Vicky Richardson uses lush piano and swelling synthesisers to build otherworldly alternative pop music. The Ocean Beneath, also known as Matt Burnside, is a pioneer in his musical realm, using vintage house and trance sounds to create experimental progressive house music. Join the natural talent of these UK-based artists, and you have a sound that is ethereal and flowing but bold and bouncy. Come with us as we delve into their single, ‘Electron Fields’.
Produced by The Ocean Beneath, ‘Electron Fields’ is a song to be felt instead of merely heard. Like being shoved into a dark forest with a twinkling, kaleidoscopic river rushing past you. One can imagine some eeriness from the surroundings, but while the imps peep from behind the trees, fairies eagerly pull you toward the coolness of that sonic river. Dancing across the water, fairy dust and glitter are left in the fairies’ wake, and you take a step to join them as they continue their joyful waltz.
Traipsing through the cool water, each moment is an exciting rush of laughter, bliss and complete calm contentment. The Ocean Beneath’s bold beats and shimmering synths are the warm wind caressing your skin, while Keeper of Bees brings the soothing flow of the river with her piano and melodic vocals. The title, ‘Electron Fields’, might hint at a house tune burning with brashness; however, this ‘Electron Fields’ is completely contrary, showing the beauty of connection and humanity instead of the more abrupt emotions.
“I’m obsessed with the idea that we’re built of molecules of the universe. The iron in our blood, the carbon at the heart of every molecule, it’s all from the stars. Earlier versions of this track were much slower, and every time Matt sent it over, he’d increased the speed. I love that bouncing beat and the delicate layering in the track…” – Keeper of Bees on ‘Electron Fields’
