Track of the Day: Broken Colours – Before The Sun (2025)
With captivating performances, infectious melodies, moving lyricism, and all-around insatiable push of exciting music, Broken Colours is imitable, intriguing, and difficult to forget. Joining the talents of Tony Goff, Umar Arar, James Sanger, and Robbie Whiting, the UK-based group has turned heads for over a decade releasing numerous critically acclaimed albums and singles, touring extensively, sharing the stage with the likes of The Subways and Blockheads, thundering their way onto official rock charts, and received an endorsement with Aria Guitars showcasing “…the band’s expertise and dedication to their craft.” Join us as we jump headfirst into their new single, ‘Before The Sun’.
Following the well-received single ‘Hey It’s Me’, ‘Before The Sun’ takes a step down from high-energy indie-rock frenzy to a softer rock ballad. Produced by James Sanger, the track quickly soothes your soul with a smooth piano, steady drums, and a dynamic guitar. Chilled-out and charmingly calm, the tune breathes sincerity and sentimentality with a bit of a languid sensation; however, amidst the calm, a waft of vulnerability exudes, making your heart ache while retaining an odd serenity.
Melodically, ‘Before The Sun’ oscillates between dark and light as Broken Colours delicately unpick the frustration, anxiety, and desperate experience of burning out in this mundane yet oppressive society. The vocals, in particular, evoke that painfulness with rough yet soul-stirring tones; it’s as if the lads capture those unsaid emotions and act as a voice for the lost. Interestingly, while the track is dark and lonely, it also lilts at hope and reprieve. Broken Colours explain:
“’Before The Sun’ – this song is a simple notion and felt by all. Feeling overworked? Underappreciated? Does it feel like you’re taking one step forward and 30 back? This song is about balance as we all burn ourselves out, more so in this new ever so ever-evolving world. This song is to remind you that you are only human, and there is hope still.”
In addition to the single, Broken Colours released an official music video for ‘Before The Sun’. You can view the video below and/or on their YouTube channel.
