Blindness & Light – Love Redacted (2025)
Stretching from Yorkshire to Anglesey in the UK, Argentina, Germany, and even Japan, Blindness & Light is an informal collective of like-minded artists coming together to create something special, something inspiring, and something intriguing – an eclectic brand of music. Drawing influence from vintage post-punk artists, such as The Velvet Underground, Colin M Potter and his international crew have treated our ears to various Blindness & Light singles, such as 2023’s ‘The First Light Of Day’, 2024’s ‘We All Lose’, and 2025’s ‘Solitude’. Today, we take a gander at their single, ‘Love Redacted’.
Following the well-received single ‘Solitude’, ‘Love Redacted’ continues blasting their blend of post-punk from our speakers. Originally released as part of their album, I Dreamt I Had Insomnia, ‘Love Redacted’ drags you back to the 1980s post-punk scene in its swirl of kaleidoscopic sound. An immersive song, ‘Love Redacted’, takes you through a haze of perfumed fog; however, while you lose your head in the wistfulness of the tune, there is an anchor to hold you to the ground.
Recorded and produced by Colin M Potter in the UK, with mixing and mastering by Benedikt Hain and Thomas Krottenthaler at Outback Studios in Germany, there is a sophistication to what might be considered a polished tone. Then again, vulnerability wavers in the melody (the wistfulness) with Potter’s vocals bringing an obscure fusion of fragility and a guiding hand (the anchor). Bold beats match soaring guitars and shimmer in an oddly harmonic nature, yet it is the distortion that really offers the old-school post-punk edginess.
Melodically, ‘Love Redacted’ offers a signature brand of Blindness & Light. Lyrically, there is a greater deal of depth and weightiness. Potter explains:
“Have you ever tried to compromise yourself too much to fit in? Well, this is about that experience, taking control and moving on. No looking back.”
So, what is my overall opinion of ‘Love Redacted’? It fits perfectly within the multifaceted perspective of I Dreamt I Had Insomnia. As a single? It’s distinctively Blindness & Light, but I feel it fits better as a jigsaw piece in an album rather than a stand-alone single.
