The Domi – Don’t Give Up So Soon (2025)
Creating “indie pop music for indie pop moods”, singer-songwriter Dominique Lemaire, also known as The Domi, brings a calming wave of music to audiences. We first came across The Domi last year with ‘Touch of Mystery’, and continued the musical journey with ‘Days of Wonder’. Today, we take a look and listen to his most recent release, ‘Don’t Give Up So Soon’.
Following the well-received ‘Shining Far Away’, the established artist showcases his skills in ‘Don’t Give Up So Soon’. A veteran producer and singer-songwriter, The Domi takes the lead, offering ethereal sounds in an intriguing pop wrapper. A harmonic combination of bold bass guitar, smooth lead guitar, steady drums and shimmering keyboards, there is a sense of 60s/70s pop lingering in ‘Don’t Give Up So Soon’. While my mind immediately shifted to the sound of the Beatles, the gentleness and lingering peep of jazz encapsulates the romance and beauty of French pop.
Smooth, soothing, and a wash of tranquillity in a three-minute melody, ‘Don’t Give Up So Soon’ is the gentle song you put on at the end of a day, when driving home, or when you’re looking for something to chill out to. Interestingly, while this is a gentle ballad – a step down from the upbeat ‘Shining Far Away’ – it retains the energy and enthusiasm of The Domi, but hushes its exuberance slightly with a glistening veil.
Melodically, ‘Don’t Give Up So Soon’ is airy and endearing – an ideal love song, if you will. Yet, the weightiness lies not entirely in its gentle nature but also in the profoundness of its lyricism. A song that captures the stillness of vulnerability and fragility. Unpicking the complexities of love, ‘Don’t Give Up So Soon’ looks at a yearning for a lover, yet trying to be confident that your request not to give up is accepted. For me, the hush of The Domi’s vocals really expresses the triumph and tragedy of romance with lilting and heartbreaking tones.
Sincere, sentimental and brimming with good vibes, ‘Don’t Give Up So Soon’ is a taste of the symphonic French pop world. I cannot wait for more from The Domi.
