Olie Beckett – Hotels (2025)

From listening to the tracks his father played on his radio and his mum humming around the house to singing in a choir and now releasing studio singles, given he’s only 15 years old, Olie Beckett is set to make his mark in music. Inspired by life and raw human emotion, the US-based singer-songwriter and composer draws from artists like Harry Styles and Ariana Grande, while also finding his own distinctive voice as a musician. He shares: “… while it’s easy to identify artists you admire, discovering your own artistic identity is more of a complex journey. It’s not always easy, but it’s super exciting to create something that feels truly like you…” We came across Beckett earlier this year with his single ‘Whiplash’. Today, we take a gander at his new song, ‘Hotels’.

Following his well-received single ‘Hawkeye’, ‘Hotels’ dips further into the slickness of R&B with a strong pop influence entwined in the melody. A bold beat pulsates throughout the tune, while a sheen of synths carries along the track; however, it is Beckett’s voice that makes the song. The rich vocals dance along the instrumentation, both running as an entirely free-standing piece, like an a cappella piece, while still dipping into the sleek tune, inserting heart into ‘Hotels’.

Tipping the scales a little further into R&B as compared to ‘Hawkeye’, there is a sassiness and smile-inducing charm lingering in a rhythmic slide of sound. Yet, while there is sophistication and elegance to the melody, Beckett’s vocals showcase his youth with an innocent, child-like timbre and a fun falsetto. Perhaps this is because I know he is only a teenager, but youth oozes from ‘Hotels’, bringing a sense of calm, charm, and contentment.

I’m unsure whether Olie Beckett can hold his own alongside Ariana Grande, but there is potential brimming in Beckett’s music. With a mention of “…a gearing up to release his debut full-length project…”, I am eager to hear more from this talented artist.
