Sean MacLeod – Cool Charisma (2025)

If you hadn’t heard about singer-songwriter Sean MacLeod before, then you’re a bit late to the party – don’t worry, we only found our way to MacLeod’s music earlier this month with ‘Romeo’. The fact is, we and you are here, and we’re facing one of the more intriguing Irish pop artists to hit the contemporary music scene. Meandering through various fields of pop, alongside his sauntering through realms of indie, folk, rock and classical, MacLeod offers a diverse sound that can appeal to audiences across the board. With his transition from retro to modern-day and back again, his music also appeals to different ages, generations, and eras. The latest addition to his discography is the single, ‘Cool Charisma’.

Following the well-received Britpop-infused single ‘Romeo’, ‘Cool Charisma’ is a toe-tapping track embracing classic indie-pop vibes while dancing across a Britpop bubble of music. One can hear a strong leaning toward the sounds of the Beatles, with inklings of jangle-pop shimmering in the melody. The fun-loving guitar riffs slice across with a steady drum in the background. ‘Cool Charisma’ twinkles with kaleidoscopic fairy-lights shining in the light while retaining a grounded pop-inspired flair.

As with ‘Romeo’, ‘Cool Charisma’ is harmonic and rhythmic, but it seems far smoother and soothing than previous material. It showcases the chilled-out side of MacLeod’s personality with a mellifluous sound. The thing is, while the single can be blasted from your speakers with soft, sincere tranquillity, it is also bold and powerful with outstanding confidence that MacLeod, rather cleverly, entwines.

So, what is my overall opinion of Sean MacLeod and ‘Cool Charisma’? This might be a bit cheesy, but his cool, charismatic attitude flavoured with infectious pop sounds sets you adrift on a sea of beautiful sound. While I am heading back to enjoy his discography, I eagerly wait for new music from this talented musician.
