Michellar – Truth Over Lies (2025)
Capturing the prevailing emotions of intricate experiences, singer-songwriter Michellar navigates complex relationships as an intimate narrative and source of solace for audiences. From ‘Get Me There To Church’ to ‘Conquer All With Love’ and ‘We Both Can Fall’, Michellar (also known as Michelle Bond) dove deep into the heart of relationships with all their pitfalls and triumphs. With her new single, ‘Truth Over Lies’, she once again explores relationships, but on a larger, national scale, dissecting the social tension between authority and the average citizen.
“With the current administration causing many citizens to despair, we all felt at the time that a protest song will be timely to write that can express our feelings of frustration and our desire to unite and call on each other to show strength and unity… urging individuals to stand up and speak out against injustices…”” – Michellar on ‘Truth Over Lies’
Following the well-received ‘We Both Can Fall’, ‘Truth Over Lies’ began as a three-way collaboration of Bond, Michael Levin, and Matthias Schmidt; borne at a songwriting retreat, the weighty melody was composed by Schmidt and penned by Bond and Levin to “reflect the current emotion of the country” as a socio-political single. Then, the international element came about as the recorded demo was sent to Frankie El in South Africa for further vocals, and it was finally produced by Miles in California, USA.
While her previous single, ‘We Both Can Fall’, opted for a folk-inspired leaning, ‘Truth Over Lies’ shifts to an alternative rock vibe with indie-rock peeps from the background. Combining a dynamic guitar with bold bass and anchoring drums, the single is a harmonious symphony that has a hard-hitting confidence, but also touches your heart with vulnerability – the good vulnerability that inspires change.
The melody itself is moving, but it is Frankie El and Michellar’s dancing vocals that really drive ‘Truth Over Lies’. As a call to arms, the rich vocals act like a person leading the rally, but there is also a softness in Frankie El’s voice that holds your hand with an anchoring tone. Sincere and powerful, I highly recommend ‘Truth Over Lies’ to any and every person.
