Lily Forte – Out Of The Blue (2025)
The younger sister of Amy Winehouse – not literally – singer-songwriter Lily Forte brings the enigmatic timelessness of Winehouse and Carole King to life in her moving melodies. With an attitude that demands attention, a soulfulness that sparks individuality, and genuine originality, it’s easy to see why Forte is considered a bold musician. This is our introduction to Lily Forte, but she has already performed at iconic venues, including the Troubadour and the Peppermint Club, featured in notable publications and radio stations/playlists far beyond her US borders. The latest addition to her discography is the single, ‘Out Of The Blue’.
Keeping the momentum going, ‘Out Of The Blue’ follows the well-received single, ‘Miles To Go’ – both tasters to her upcoming album scheduled for early 2026. Produced with James Cain, ‘Out Of The Blue’ retains the sassy soulfulness heard in ‘Miles To Go’, yet there is a darker, weightier, heavier tone to both the melody and lyricism. A combination of pulsating drums, a bold bass, and a dynamic guitar, the track has an indie-pop-inspired flourish. Toe-tapping and smooth in one sense, yet also a little disconcerting and jagged in another, ‘Out Of The Blue’ draws you with its sophisticated production while the vocals add a hushed aggression lingering in and dancing across the tune.
Melodically, the tune has a certain complexity to it, bringing a dark and light side to audiences. For me, however, it is Forte’s vocals that up the proverbial ante. Penned as a response to an unforeseen break-up – ending via telephone of all things – ‘Out Of The Blue’ is a diary entry of vulnerability but also that “well, stuff you anyway” sentimentality. Forte explains: “I felt intrigued by the thought of transmitting to someone through song. Like if I write these words, maybe he will finally hear me.”
In addition to the single, Forte released an official music video for ‘Out Of The Blue’. You can view it below and/or on her YouTube channel.
