Elinore – The Painter (2025)

Describing herself as a “major brooder” on Spotify, singer-songwriter Elinore explores the more personal, poignant, and sometimes devastating side of the coin. Facing reality with soulful vocals, evocative lyricism, and an attitude that says, “well, this is how it is, dude”, the London-based singer-songwriter captures the necessity to take things as they are, but with poetic clarity. Join us as we take a headfirst leap into her sophomore single, ‘The Painter’.

Following her debut track, ‘Talk To Me’, Elinore teams up with producer Lowgo in a “display of continued vulnerability and grit” in ‘The Painter’. As compared to her previous single, ‘The Painter’ seems somewhat steadier in its pace – a form of slowing things down in a veil of soulful sophistication. A beautifully layered tune, a soothing guitar saunters along in a jazz-tinted step of sound, while a piano lies alongside it; both working together in harmony, but acting as if they were two independent entities.

The charming tune can be listened to as a moving instrumental, but Elinore’s rich, warm vocals dance atop and flow across ‘The Painter’, weaving and swooping with elegant maturity. When confronted with Elinore’s voice, she enriches the song with boldness, yet there is shyness and true humanity caught with raw authenticity.

As I mentioned, ‘The Painter’ is elegant and sophisticated, but there is a more complex theme hidden in the soothing tune. Touching on relationships, Elinore delicately unpicks the intricacies of relationships – particularly the concept of “painting” your partner’s identity. A gritty ballad, Elinore sings a cautionary tale about “what happens when you fall in love with a version of someone you’ve fabricated in your head as opposed to who they really are… the unknown painter, who has expertly crafted a false understanding of his lover based on ideals and assumptions…”

People often see what they want to see, especially when entering the honeymoon phase of relationships. You want the individual to be your ideal, but what happens when the curtain drops? In ‘The Painter’, Elinore brings brutal honesty and, perhaps unwanted, clarity to those who might be duped but are forced to see the light.
