The Zaramutas – Big Steps (2025)

Described as a duo with thrilling innovation, enthralling inventiveness, and plenty of rock-drive swagger, The Zaramutas bring a raving amalgamation of styles and intentions with passionate and profound cries that have you headbanging while dwelling in a charming melodic harmony. While the UK-based pair have been sharing music with the masses for years, since the well-received 2021 EP, Christos & The Violet Crown, to 2025’s critically acclaimed single, ‘WATERMELON’, this is our introduction to The Zaramutas. So, join us as we take a deep breath and jump headfirst into their most recent single, ‘Big Steps’.

Penned, recorded and produced by musician Christos Chatzispyrou, ‘Big Steps’ is another leap of hard rock music blasting from our speakers. Roaring with crashing drums, a bold bass, and scorching guitars, the new single is fiery and ferocious, hitting you between the eyes with a great thwack. Interestingly, while ‘Big Steps’ can fall into the field of hard rock, The Zaramutas entwine chaotic blips of melodic metal with old-school alternative rock, a bit of grungy distortion, and even flickers of jazz slicing through the arrangement. For me, the combination of these styles might collide or feel uncomfortably overwhelming; however, The Zaramutas elegantly dance across the soundscape with rambunctious recklessness and sincere sensitivity.

Like I said, ‘Big Steps’ hits you between the eyes with a massive thwack, but it isn’t a song leaving you dazed and swirling in its hurricane of sound. Instead, ‘Big Steps’ is The Zaramutas holding your hand, giving you an encouraging grin, and walking alongside you instead of swamping you with waves of music. A song about defiance and unity, ‘Big Steps’ is a protest anthem commanding listeners to take action and march together in the noise. The band explain:

“This one is about movement – physical and political… It’s about taking the noise we make together and turning it into something that shakes the ground.”
